Developed to introduce pupils aged 9-11 to STEM subjects in the most engaging way possible – through the creation of a miniature paper car – STEM Racing Primary is an educational project like no other.

Teams from across the region compete for a place at the National Finals, showcasing their skills in design, engineering, innovation, and collaboration as they present their cars, portfolios, and pit displays to judges.
The STEM Racing Primary Class is an exciting introduction to the world of STEM and motorsport for students aged 9–11. Participants will design, build, and race their own miniature F1 cars while exploring the fundamentals of engineering, design, and aerodynamics.
Working in teams, students will develop essential skills in creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management—just like a real racing team! This fun, hands-on challenge inspires curiosity and confidence while helping students discover the exciting possibilities of STEM from an early age.
Teams create their own body shell - designing front/rear wings and side pods to add to the ready-made chassis
Using scissors or a cutter plotter, students cut their chosen shapes and glue them together
Produce a five-page Design & Engineering portfolio
Deliver a five-minute verbal presentation
Learn the basic principles of project management and how to use them
